Roleplaying Guildlines and Tips
Spelling and Grammer
Many of the Roleplayers on this Forum are here to have a good time and express themselves in their plots. One way to make that time better is with decent Spelling and Grammer. This means that when you are IC (In Character), please do not use abbreviations such as "lol" or "btw". It is highly appreciated. If you have trouble with Spelling and such, the Administrators and Moderators offer a bit of advice. Write up your posts in Microsoft Word and use the Spell Check. If you are still having trouble, feel free to contact one of the Administrators or Moderators for assistance.
Keep Actions in Third Person
This means try not to use the words "I, me, my, mine, you, your, ect..." when you are posting an action. For instance instead of saying: "I cast a spell upon the quill." I would say: "Kathleen cast a spell upon the quill." This does not apply to Quotes or when your character is speaking though.
Keep your Characters based on Reality if Possible
This means that if you are a student, act like one. Don't be running around with no true purpose at Hogwarts but to cause trouble. The Administrators and Moderators don't want to have to deal with trouble-makers (unless of course your character is originally based upon mischief). Also, we know that many of you will try to be Nightelves and Bloodelves and this is fine. But we ask of you to not go over board. These races are based on true Fables and do not try and make them invulnerable to everything also known as "Perfect".
Plots
Another helpful tip is plotting out your plots. If you wish to RP (Roleplay) with a specific person, talk to them about your plot idea by using Private Messaging. If there is a plot already layed out and you wish to join, PM the people involve and ask them. Also read up on the plot so you dont enter unknowledgable of what is going on.
Ask Questions
If you are unsure about something, do not be afraid to ask. The Administrators and Moderators will be happy to answer any questions. Use the "Have any Questions?" Board or if you want the question private, PM any of them. If you wish to ask a fellow member something, don't be afraid. We are here to enjoy ourselves and make friends.
Don't take over other characters
If you want someone to be a follower, ask them. If they do not wish to, do not bother them about it. If you are harrassing any of the other members in such ways, action with be taken. Also for those of you who may be harrassed, PM any of the Administrators and we will handle the situation.
Post only when you are supposed to
This means that if you can not cause the Plot to continue, do not post. We don't wish to have plot freeze up on us when several of the posts have no true purpose.
Creativity
This is a helpful tip for everyone. People want to read something that is fun and exciting not dull. Keep your posts creative and full of details.
Closed Threads
If a thread is closed it is closed for a reason. If a thread is closed, do not post in it. The author wishes for it to be closed so leave it that way.
Absences
If you planning on being away from longer then two weeks, we ask of you to give a logical IN CHARACTER excuse. For instance if you are going to be away over the Winter Holidays then say that your character is leaving Hogwarts to spend it with Family. Or if you are going away during the Term, then say that your character was wounded during Quidditch or some where and that you are to be in the Hospital Wing.
Post Length
Post lengths should range from three sentences and up. This will help the plots move on quicker. We also understands that at times a simple two sentences is enough to get the point across but please remember details.
Custom Characters
Since this Forum is based later on, we ask that all the characters be Custom Characters. We will not be having Cannon Characters on this Forum. All the Harry Potter characters have already left Hogwarts so there is no need to have them returning, but decendants are welcome.
